Line up changes at Sore Fingers Week 2012
9th Feb 2012
Just when we thought the organisation was all wrapped it all happened! Things began to change completely so here is a summary of what’s been going on at Sore Fingers headquarters this last couple of weeks or so.
Some changes have been made to Banjo, Mandolin, Guitar and Beginners. The other courses remain as previously announced.
As usual BANJO bookings went bananas so we are now running three “main” Courses: These will be led by the prestigious threesome: RICHARD BAILEY, DANNY BARNES and RICHARD COLLINS. Nor should we forget that John Breese will be teaching beginners and Carl Jones teaching “Old Time”. We therefore think banjo heaven at Sore Fingers Week 2012 is well accounted for.
Similarly, the MANDOLIN class oversubscribed enough for us to justify adding another main class led by the ever popular REX PRESTON. So, together with JESSE BROCK’s class and not forgetting Dan Norton’s beginner’s class we have mandolin admirably covered.
Unfortunate situations arose where, due to circumstances beyond their control, a couple of tutors needed to pull out. Orrin Star has experienced some health problems which, although not serious, will not be resolved before Easter so he stood down. Orrin asked us to pass on sincere apologies to his guitar class. Similarly, Eleanor Cross has had to pull out from teaching the beginners fiddle class.
However, every cloud has a silver lining so here’s the good news:
Two “main” GUITAR Courses will now run as follows:
We are delighted to have secured the strongly recommended services of GRANT GORDY. Grant is new to Sore Fingers but has heard great things about SFW and is really looking forward to running a Guitar Course for us. In addition we are really pleased to be able to invite our old friend JOHN LOWELL to lead another Guitar Course after the disappointment of having to cancel his song writing class. We know he was looking forward to being at Kingham for a record fifth time! Also, forget not again that Guitar is further boosted with Gary Payne’s beginner course.
Replacing Eleanor to lead the BEGINNERS FIDDLE Class, LAURA CARRIVICK will be joining the team with John Breese, Gary Payne and Dan Norton to get you started playing great Bluegrass. Most of you will know Laura as a regular at the event and of course for her work with Charlotte as part of their successful duo the Carrivick Sisters who are making great waves on the British Folk and Bluegrass scenes.
Please go to the SFSS web site tutor biog pages to read about the new people.
Keep the bookings coming and we’ll see you at Kingham in eight weeks time!
